Connecting culture, nature, and community
The District Plan will transform Downsview West’s 30 hectares into an urban mosaic: a collection of unique neighbourhoods integrated into a complete community.
- Delivering 8,800 homes – including 20% affordable housing – that will provide homes to more than 17,000 residents
- Structured around 3.8 hectares (9.3 acres) of parks and open spaces, providing opportunities for gathering, play, recreation, tree canopy and rainwater retention
- Shaped by the adaptive reuse of the iconic Depot Building, the District’s built form is designed to support vibrant public spaces and comfortable microclimates
- The Ancestors’ Trail, an 800 metres long canvas for cultural expression and Indigenous place-keeping, will connect residents and visitors to the District’s diverse histories
- More than 120,000 square metres of employment space, including approximately 25,000 square metres of retail space, creating more than 3,300 jobs.
Overall, Downsview West will be a collection of neighbourhoods unlike any other. It will serve as a model for harmonious and sustainable urban development that emphasizes the physical and cultural wellbeing of all living things, for generations to come.
